Ieri ho trascorso tutto il pomeriggio alla festa nazionale de l’Unità tenutasi a Ravenna. Un evento unico nel suo genere e magistralmente organizzato, anche grazie all’apporto fondamentale dei tanti volontari e dove l’entusiasmo, l’altruismo e i sani valori della sinistra sopravvivono alla débacle politica del PD in fase di ricerca di se.

“Diritti e pari opportunità per una nuova Europa” è il dibattito al quale ho assistito e che mi ha lasciato sgomento. Ma prima di spiegare le due ragioni fondamentali del mio stato d’animo devo fare un passo indietro. Tra i relatori penso valga la pena citarne due, ossie l’ex ministro della difesa Sen. Roberta Pinotti (PD) e l’On.Laura Boldrini (Liberi e Uguali). A parte la differenza di stile e di qualità dei contenuti – l’On. Boldrini sostianzialmente ha utilizzato molto del suo tempo ed energie per ribadire il concetto per cui bisogna usare il femminile di ministro che a suo parere è ministra – segnalo anche e soprattutto la capacità di ascolto e di rispetto per l’interlocutore.

Se la senatrice Pinotti nel suo intervento, ad esempio,  ha trovato spazio a raccontare un aneddoto di quando ad un certo punto in Europa vi erano quattro ministri della difesa donna e del ruolo delle stesse in una politica comune di difesa, l’On. Boldrini si è scagliata contro un signore seduto in prima fila e palesemente appena uscito da Arcore ed in evidente stato confusionale per ciò, circa la diatriba, di nuovo, del femminile della parola ministro.

Le donne in Italia guadagnano meno degli uomini (a breve pubblicherò dati e statistiche in un post dedicato), se incinte vengono spesso discriminate sul posto di lavoro in termini di carriera. L’organizzazione del lavoro in molte aziende del Paese è ferma ai primi dell’800 e qual è il dramma di tutto questo, il modo in cui difendere le donne per l’On. Boldrini? Quello di usare il termine ministra. La mia impressione è che la Boldrini si scagli in maniera aggressiva, violenta, provocatoria ed infantile contro chi la persa linguisticamente diversamente da lei per distogliere l’attenzione da problemi per i quali la stessa non ha soluzioni. Un po' quello che Salvini fa con i migranti.

Oso dire che la Boldrini è la Salvini di sinistra. Il PD deve riprendersi, ma la sinistra tutta deve ripartire da donne che portano contenuti, competenza, serietà e, soprattutto capacità d’ascolto. La sinistra deve ripartire da donne come la senatrice Pinotti. Soltanto cosi si dialoga con la gente, ascoltando e ragionando per priorità. Un giorno anche il femminile di ministro arriverà, ma prima diamo dignità alle donne le quali, comunque, sono già operaie, direttrici, maestre, professoresse. I ministri saranno una quindicina, le lavoratrici sono milioni e per loro il sostantivo femminile che descriva la loro professione e talvolta il loro sfruttamento esiste già. E questa è la prima ragione del mio sgomento, cioè che parte della sinistra non è in grado di spiegare alla gente quali sono i problemi che colpiscono determinati settori della società civile; insomma è “scollata” dalla realtà che il Paese vive quotidianamente.

La seconda ragione invece è molto più personale. Il PD ha indubbiamente bisogno di ritrovare se stesso e i propri elettori e questo, probabilmente dovrà passare attraverso non solo l’apertura verso la società civile, ma anche e soprattutto facendo alleanze con altre forze progressiste e democratiche. Allora è opinione del tutto mia ma oso fare una previsione, che se l’alleanza con queste forze significa includere in questo progetto di rinascita anche l’On. Boldrini, allora il Paese non capirà. Non capirà e si allontanerà sempre di più e ciò avverrà in quanto le lavoratrici e i lavoratori hanno bisogno di essere ascoltati e non giudicati ed attaccati. Hanno bisogno di sentire qualcuno che parli di problemi a loro vicini, ad esempio la flessibilità oraria nelle fabbriche, la sicurezza sul lavoro, gli asili nido vicino alla fabbrica e finanziati dall’azienda. Una forza progressista deve far propri i contributi sintetizzati di tutti e far si che le idee si contaminino, come giustamente evidenziato da Walter Veltroni qualche giorno fa. Dunque contaminazione di idee, non imposizione delle proprie soprattutto se ciò passa da una mera ed irrilevante, almeno in questo preciso momento storico, questione linguistica.

Yesterday I’ve been in Ravenna at the Italian Democratic Party’s festival (festa de l’Unità) where I spent all the evening. It is such a unique event so well organized, also thanks to the work of many volunteers, where enthusiasm, altruism and the “good old Left’s value” still survive despite the political fiasco of PD still searching for its own identity.

“Rights and equal opportunities for a new Europe” it’s the debate I’ve attended to and that left me dismayed. However, before to start explaining the two main reasons that provoked this feeling in me, I must make a step backward and provide some background explanation. Among the speakers there were two women. The first is the former minister of Defense and actual Senator RobertaPinotti (PD) while the second is MP Laura Boldrini (Liberi e Uguali). Both elected with left-wing parties. First of all, among the two speaker there was a huge difference in terms of style and content. MP Boldrini basically has used most of her time and energy to highlight the importance of the feminine version of the noun “minister” (in English there is not this issue, but in Italian many nouns have only the masculine version). Except this, one thing has emerged; the ability to listen and to respect the interlocutor, utterly ignored by Ms Boldrini.

If Senator Pinotti in speech has made some time, for instance, to tell an anedoctal event of when at a certain point, in Europe, there were four women leading their respective countries ministries of Defense and their role in designing common defense policy, MP Boldrini, instead, first provoked and then attacked after he replied, a man seated on the first row, who looked a bit confused after having just left Berlusconi’s mansion, about the debate, still, on the feminine version of the noun minister.

Women in Italy, like in majority of EU countries earn less than their men counterpart (I will soon publish in a separate post proper data and stats), if pregnant might be discriminated in terms of career progression.

Furthermore, in many cases the organization of work is stuck at the beginning of last century and what’s the problem according to MP Boldrini? Grammar. My impression is that Ms Boldrini use her aggression, verbal violence and childish manners just to divert the attention from much more serious problems for which she might not have the right answers. This is similar to the usage that Matteo Salvini makes of all issue coming from immigration and migrants.

I dare to say that Boldrini is the counterpart of Salvini for the left-wing. Democratic Party needs to recover and restart a new path. However, I strongly believe that in order to do so it should start from women who brings content, expertise, reliability and, most of all ability to listen. The Italian Left needs to start from women like Senator Pinotti. Only in this way it would be possible to talk to people, by listening, reasoning and identifying priorities. One day Italian will have the feminine version of the noun minister, but first we should donate to women dignity (worker, director, teacher, professor, are already nouns than in the Italian language have the corresponding feminine. Ministers might be around 15 positions but workers are millions and for those women already exist the noun that describe their profession, as well as their exploitation. This is the first reason of my dismay, in other words the incapability of the Left to talk to people and explain them, clearly, what are the real problems. At the moment, there is a Left away from the real daily country’s issues.

The second reason is more personal. There is no doubt that the Democratic Party needs to find itself and its own voters. Probably the path towards this achievement passes both by not only opening the party to get the contribution in terms of ideas and valued coming from the citizens, and by arranging a new coalition with progressive and democratic parties and organizations. Having said so, it is my strong belief and my political prediction that if the alliance with democratic forces includes also Ms Boldrini then Italians will not understand and would get even farther from the PD as they did on 4^th March. People don’t need to be attached and judged based on the term they use to indicate a minister. I think what people would need, perhaps is to listen to somebody who talks about having flexible working hours, kindergartens paid by the employer, safety at work. A progressive force need to summarize everyone’s contribution in terms of ideas and let ideas influence each other, as former Major of Rome Walter Veltroni said some days ago. Therefore “contamination” of ideas, not imposing their own especially if this means a mere grammar diatribe.
